Sunroom Prices

When you buy a sunroom you have two option; either build it yourself (from a DIY self-assembly sunroom kit) or get it professionally installed by the sunroom manufacturers or their affiliated partners.

Sunroom Kits

There are many companies that sell kits or packs that are allegedly easy to assemble. Whether you go this route will depend on your confidence at DIY / home improvement and how big and complicated the design of the sunroom is. As a rough guide one could expect to pay between $80-160 per ft2. The upper end of the pricing is for the smallest of the kits (in terms of ft2) and the lowest pricing is for the largest kits. This price compares well with mid-range DIY conservatory kits from Europe. In Europe where perhaps the sunroom or conservatory has been more popular much more basic kits are available for lower price than commonly found in the US.

Sunroom Companies

Here it is harder to find out how much a 'typical' sunroom would cost as there are so many bespoke designs out there. Taking the kit cost as a baseline and factoring in labor costs for the assembly one can estimate that at the low end one could expect to pay $120 per ft2. At the upper end the sky is the limit as the US sunroom market is tailored toward very high quality designs and builds with currently little nationally available budget products. However, as an example one could pay upwards of $75000 for a high quality large sunroom.

Additions

You get what you pay for. If one wants an oak instead of aluminum frame then expect to pay more. If you want specialized solar coated glass then expect to pay more. The more additional features you add the higher the per ft2 cost will be.

Return On Investment

One thing to consider is that you are adding to the value of your property. whilst you will rarely recover all the cost of the sunroom it is likely, though not certain, that it will return 60% or more of the outlay. The better the quality of the sunroom the more likely it will be that you will get a good return on investment. A poor quality finish will actually put buyers off some aspects of the property.
