Sunroom Poolrooms
What a great sunroom idea - have a pool inside the sunroom! Well, yes it is a superb idea, but so is me retiring right now, which wont happen because I haven't got enough money. Likewise there are other issues attached with building a sunroom poolroom.
Sunroom poolroom size and shape
Due to the fact that it has to accommodate a swimming pool that needs to be large enough for you to at least pretend to swim in means the sunroom itself has to be of a reasonable size. Don't just consider the size of the pool when designing the floor area for the sunroom. You also need to realize that you will need to get out of the pool and also walk around it without fear of falling in all the time. As it is a pool you may want to design into the sunroom an area to get changed and perhaps have a shower. Maybe, you'll want to have a drink after the swim and so maybe have a bar as well. Well you have just spent all that money on a sunroom and pool!
A classic shape for a pool is a rectangle and so it makes sense to build a rectangular or larger square sunroom. The old world orangery is an ideal style to suit this shape plus it has high gables and partially covered roof to reduce the effect of condensation.
Poolroom build issues
You will not want to stare at a brick knee wall whilst you are swimming so it will be nice to take the glazing all the way down to the floor. You're main issue will be with humidity and condensation with so much water in the air in a glazed room.
There are several approaches to try and combat humidity and condensation in poolrooms
- Have plenty of ventilation in the form of roof vents, windows and French doors to allow any breeze to come through. A design with a high roof will deal with moisture better than a low one.
- If the pool water is heated then try and also heat the air to a similar temperature.
- When the pool is not in use place a pool cover over it to reduce evaporation.
- Make sure your sunroom is well insulated both on the roof and by using double glazing. This will reduce the risk of condensation on a cold outside day.
In addition if the pool is heated you ideally want to hide the heater and filter units somewhere maybe in another room or perhaps under ground. This could also house any air conditioning units you have.
Sunroom poolroom summary
A sunroom with a pool needs to larger than a normal sunroom preferably with a high roof and it must be well ventilated. If you take these into account and you have the money, you could obtain a fantastic room for entertaining or relaxing by the pool on a hot summers day or even a cold evening.
